The lateen sail, triangular and carried on a long slanting yard, is one of the oldest sails in the Mediterranean. It lets a boat sail upwind and maneuver easily close to shore. Paired with the pointu, Provence's traditional fishing boat with its tapered hull, it forms a silhouette instantly recognizable in the ports of the South of France.
Our blue pointu with lateen sail is about 12 cm long. It is designed for our 6 cm santons, often the scale of a family's first Nativity scene. Its raised sail gives it height and brings a sea or harbor scene to life. It also comes in yellow, red, and green, so you can put together a colorful little fleet.
It is made by hand in our Aix-en-Provence workshop and painted with a brush. Since 1934, our family has rounded out its santon collection with scenery pieces that tell the story of all of Provence, from the hills to the sea.
Find our boats in the shop at 65 cours Gambetta, Aix-en-Provence. The pointu is individually wrapped in paper, then bubble wrap, and your package ships within 2 to 3 business days.
